Curator's Note:

'Do you have any bread?' Mr Weka, 1871

Mr Weka was a distant cousin of Mr Tuatara. His parents died in a fire when he was young and he was left to forage for himself for a time. The local community banded together to take care of Mr Weka as best they could, making sure there was always a spare crust of bread.

Mr Weka is painted with Winsor and Newton oil paints, and varnished with Gamblin Gamvar gloss varnish.

Mr Weka's canvas is ready to hang with picture wire and D-rings installed on the stretchers.
